Car Park Stewards for Amazon

Helping Amazon supply customers with all their Christmas needs requires only the best, well trained car park staff to organise busy access points – which is where we came in.

We have worked with Amazon on numerous occasions, but Christmas 2021 stands out as being one of the most demanding, and complex of all. The sudden imposition of temporary lockdown restrictions over the festive period meant that customers turned to Amazon in ever increasing numbers to obtain festive food, drink as well as presents and must have items. Demand didn’t reduce when restrictions eased at the beginning of December – in fact, it simply grew faster.

Car park problems

For Amazon’s 27 distribution sites, it was not good news. They were overwhelmed with orders ready for delivery, and thousands of extra seasonal staff had to be called in to help out so that all parcels got out in time.

Solving one problem created another – demand for staff parking increased equally fast. Staff were spending more time than needed trying to find parking spaces, and the risk of accidents and congestion grew higher until we stepped in.

A solution found

Our Marshals quickly restored order and efficiency to every distribution centre car park. Up to 10 marshals were provided at each site, including event managers, working 24/7. Their task was simple – make sure that traffic flowed freely, parking rules maintained enabling staff to leave and enter the site quickly and easily.

Throughout the Christmas period, our marshals fulfilled their duties with superb efficiency. They had to:
• Ensure safety practices were followed, including on pedestrian walkways. Staff could walk, not run around the site, and all speed limits for vehicles had to be enforced.
• Drivers had to be directed to appropriate car parking spaces
• Designated areas were used for pick up’s and drop off’s.
• Ensure that cars were properly parked, and did not take up multiple bays
• Avoid escalating bad temper and tension among people trying to park
• Direct traffic around the site, include to and from overflow areas
• Monitor car park exit times throughout both day and night shifts
• Provide Amazon’s loss prevention teams with comprehensive end of shift reports
• Reporting any near misses and work related incidents
• Helping maintain site security

The Stewards Results

As the Christmas deliveries drew to a close, our staff were finally able to begin relaxing. They had achieved every goal they had been set. Our team of Marshals had ensured that the entire car park operation had worked smoothly from Day One. It was a victory for experience and skill.
